Abstract NF-& b. kappa; B is composed of hetero-or homodimers of Rel family proteins
and is involved in inflammatory response, growth control, and cell death. In unstimulated
cells, NF-& b. kappa; B is sequestered in the cytoplasm as a complex with inhibitory
proteins called I& b. kappa; Bs. Various stimuli activating NF-& b. kappa; B result in
phosphorylation of two serines at the N-terminus of I& b. kappa; Bα and I& b.
